Plot: What Is Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani About?

Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh) is a rich, loud, flamboyant Punjabi boy from a big sweets business family in Delhi. Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt) is an intelligent, bold, Bengali news anchor from a liberal family.

They meet, fight, and fall in love. But their families are totally opposite - Rocky's family is traditional, patriarchal, English-hating Punjabi family led by his strict grandmother Dhanlakshmi (Jaya Bachchan). Rani's family is liberal, educated Bengali family.

Before marriage, they decide to live in each other's family for 3 months to understand each other. Rocky goes to Rani's Bengali house and tries to become sanskari, and Rani goes to Rocky's Punjabi mansion and deals with patriarchy.

In between, there is a hidden love story of Kanwal (Dharmendra) and Jamini (Shabana Azmi) - Rocky's grandfather and Rani's grandmother who were lovers 50 years ago but separated. Will Rocky-Rani reunite them? Will their own families accept this modern love?

This is classic Karan Johar - big houses, big emotions, designer clothes, and a message about feminism and family.
