Shyam Singha Roy is a 2021 Telugu period romantic drama film directed by Rahul Sankrityan. The film stars Natural Star Nani in a double role, along with Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty and Madonna Sebastian in lead roles. Produced by Niharika Entertainment, Shyam Singha Roy was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2021 and won National Award for Sai Pallavi's dance and acting. The Hindi dubbed version was released in 2023 on Goldmines Telefilms and became superhit on YouTube.


PLOT / STORY OF SHYAM SINGHA ROY


The story is about Vasu (Nani), a struggling video director in Hyderabad who is accused of copying a famous Bengali novel. He is taken to court for plagiarism.

During the case, Vasu starts having strange visions of a past life. He realizes he is the reincarnation of Shyam Singha Roy, a famous Bengali writer and social reformer from 1970s Kolkata who fought against Devadasi system.

In his past life, Shyam falls in love with Rosy aka Maitreyi (Sai Pallavi), a Devadasi dancer. Their love story and his fight to give respect to Devadasi women is the heart of the film. How Vasu proves his innocence with the help of his past life memories is the climax.

The second half full of Kolkata culture, Bengali background and Sai Pallavi's classical dance is the main highlight.
